Working on a candidate

Open a card: the source sits on the left, and on the right is an editable ingredient table with every ingredient the AI read out of the source.

The rule

The candidate is the draft. Whatever you set here is what Promote uses — it stops guessing at quantities the moment you’ve typed them.

The ingredient table

Each row carries what the AI read, the pantry item you match it to, a quantity, a unit, a note and a live cost, totalling at the top.

  • Match an ingredient from the combobox. You choose the pantry item — the AI no longer pre-picks one, so the field starts empty and waits for you.
  • Quantities pre-fill when readable. “240g guanciale” lands as 240 + g; Italian decimal commas work. When it can’t parse — “a handful”, “q.b.” — the field stays empty and the hint sits underneath.
  • Costs fill as soon as you match an item. A unit mismatch leaves the cost blank rather than showing a phantom number.
  • Reorder by dragging the ⋮⋮ grip. The drag is the save.

Steps edit the same way below. On a YouTube video each step also shows the time it happens, like ▶ 4:12. Press it and the video jumps there.

What the chef said

Above the ingredients is a small card: how many it serves, prep time, cook time, how hard it is.

These only appear when the chef says them in the video. If the chef never says how many it serves, the card leaves that out. We do not guess a number. What is there fills in your recipe when you press Promote.

The chef’s transcript

Under the title, collapsed, is what the chef actually said in the video — word for word. It’s the source of truth; the table above is an interpretation of it.

It’s editable, and worth editing — Promote uses your saved version, so a cleaned transcript reads through into a much better recipe.

No transcript? Type one in. Music-only videos come back empty with a note. There are no words to write down.

The team thread

Leave a technique note, flag an allergen, argue for a different ingredient. Append-only and chronological, so a week-old candidate reads like a slow review.

You can always delete your own comments. Deleting someone else’s needs the R&D editor permission.

Good to know

  • Photos scraped from the source, frames you saved, and anything you upload all live in the gallery strip. They carry over on Promote in order — the first becomes the hero.
  • Uploads take JPEG, PNG, HEIC, MP4 or WebM up to 50 MB; HEIC converts automatically.
  • Press Download video to keep a copy of the video from the post. It costs a few AI credits. Links from the social app stop working after a day or two. The app gets a new link for you when you press the button.
  • A video over 25 MB cannot be saved from the post. Upload a shorter clip with Upload photo or video instead.
