Writing an item description with AI

Three cards on the item page carry a Write with AI button: Short blurb, Full description, and SEO & Social Sharing. Every AI button on the page is the same purple pill, with the credit price on it.

How it works

  1. Click it. A preview modal opens and the draft writes itself in front of you, a few words at a time — one or two lines for the short version, a paragraph plus ingredients and an allergen line for the full one.
  2. It renders as it goes, exactly as it’ll appear on the public page — paragraphs, bullets, bold and all. If the angle is wrong you can see it early and hit Cancel.
  3. When it finishes, the score appears beside it. Edit it in the modal if you want.
  4. Use this → fills the English field and closes. It isn’t saved yet — the page’s Save Changes button commits it.

The SEO one works differently

The ✨ on SEO & Social Sharing writes the search title and the description together — they’re one decision, so they cost one credit between them. There’s no preview modal: both fields are short and land right under the button, where you can edit them. Undo puts back whatever was there before.

Once the fields have content the button reads Rewrite with AI, so you know whether you’re filling a blank or replacing your own words.

Steering it

  • 🔄 Regenerate gives a fresh draft when the angle is wrong.
  • The Steer the rewrite field points the next one: “make it more playful”, “emphasize Sicilian origin”. It applies to that one regenerate, then clears.

Good to know

  • The score only appears once the draft has finished. A half-written sentence is short because it hasn’t arrived yet, and grading it then would just be wrong.
  • Each draft is graded on its own rules: a short blurb against the 18–32 word target, a full description against the longer one. See the score.
  • If one tile is weak — say Sensory is yellow — either edit in the modal or regenerate with “more texture words”.
  • Everything the AI writes now draws on your venue’s own notes — your house voice, the category notes, and the private kitchen notes on the item. The more you’ve written there, the less generic the drafts.
  • The AI only names ingredients you gave it: in the ingredient list, the dish name or your kitchen notes. It does not guess the rest. So a dish with no ingredient list gets a shorter text, and the Ingredients tile of the score may be yellow. Add the ingredients and write again.
  • It writes in English only. After saving, the ✨ Translate empty button on each field fills the other languages from it. The two tools compose: AI writes the English, the translator does the rest.
