What Telegram is allowed to do
Permissions are the load-bearing part of this. Under Settings → AI → Telegram, scroll to What it may do.
The rule
The venue ceiling and the person’s role are both applied. A cashier without menu-edit rights can never change a price by chat, however the venue is configured. Turn a tool off at venue level and nobody uses it — not even the owner.
The three presets
- Manager — everything: reads, price and flag edits, adding items, stock updates.
- Cashier — all reads, plus sold-out and stock counts. No price edits, no new items.
- View only — reads only. It can answer “what categories do we have” and change nothing.
Below the presets each tool is its own checkbox, grouped by area. An amber Write tag marks anything that changes data; reads are unmarked. Clicking saves immediately — there’s no separate save button, and the new ceiling applies from the next message.
When it says it can’t
If it declines something — “how many carbonara did we sell last month” — that’s almost always a tool that isn’t switched on, not a sign-in problem. Turn on the relevant group (or pick a broader preset) and it can answer on the very next message.
When the card says “Needs attention”
That means Telegram stopped accepting our replies — usually because someone blocked the chat. Unblock it in Telegram and send any message; the next reply restores the connection.
If Pair my Telegram is greyed out with an “Ask your venue owner” tooltip, you’re signed in but your role doesn’t include the AI settings page here.
Good to know
- Telegram activity below the checklist lists what happened, who asked, and when.
- Widening the ceiling never widens an individual — their role still caps them.
- Changes take effect on the next message, not on a restart.
