Details on the card, and filters for guests

You made boxes for a section — ABV, body, taste. Now you choose which ones a guest sees on the card, and which ones they can filter by.

The rule: you pick. Before this, the card picked for you.

How it works

  1. Open the section and scroll to Custom Fields.
  2. Find a box, like ABV, and turn on Show this on the card.
  3. Turn on Let guests filter by this for boxes guests should narrow by. They get a filter list beside the menu on a computer, and a Filters button on a phone.
  4. Press Save Changes.

Wine boxes have their own place

A few boxes do not show as a grey tag with a title. They go where a guest reads them fastest:

  • Wine type sits on the photo, bottom left.
  • ABV sits on the photo, bottom right. This is the same for beer and spirits.
  • Grape varieties show one tag for each grape, with no title. Guests know they are grapes.
  • Sweetness shows the word only, like Dry.
  • Taste profile notes slide across one line, like the ingredients on food cards.

Other boxes keep their small title, like Country Italy or Body Light.

Sections inside sections

A wine list is often one section holding four: Wine, with White, Red, Rosé and Sparkling inside it. Every bottle sits in one of the four, and an item reads the boxes of its own section. So switches set on Wine do nothing for those bottles.

Set them on Wine, press Save Changes, then press Copy these boxes to the sections inside. The panel names which sections those are. A box only one section has is kept.

Good to know

  • Pick nothing and nothing changes. Your menu looks exactly as it does today.
  • Your picks take over from the old built-in wine and cocktail tags.
  • Almost any box can be a filter. Dropdown, yes/no and text all work. A number box cannot: a price would give one button per item.
  • A text box with commas becomes many filters. Write Sangiovese, Merlot in Grapes and a guest can filter by either.
  • Guests can pick more than one, and the most common come first. The rest sit behind Show all.
  • Every button says how many it finds. A button that finds nothing is never shown.
  • Guests only see buttons that find something. If no wine is orange, there is no Orange button.
  • Empty boxes never print. An item with no body written shows one tag fewer. It does not show a blank one.
  • Both Save buttons work — Save fields in the panel, and Save Changes at the top.
  • Only people who can edit the menu can change this.
